The Kids Are Alright

Last night I ventured out of my crypt to attend the Fierce festival’s opening party. Last year’s closing party was extreme, think Ron athey, spider woman, peaches, and all sorts of witchery.

The kick off for this years festival didn’t quite have the same feel to it, infact it was more a nod off than a kick off.

The music was dismal, a nice blend of 80’s medley’s combined with the worst floor fillers and the crowd of beleaguered city ‘creative’ types, desperately trying to look interesting. It was a little disappointing, that was until I spotted two guy’s dressed in gold brogues and wrapping paper, who were clearly the only people in the room who thought they were attending an art party and not your cousin Amanda’s wedding.

So I approached these peeps, only to find that despite their flair and style, that they were only sixteen yrs old. I couldn’t believe it, I’m 24 and these guys were repping it like Richie Rich at his peak.

A few cocktails later and I was also adorned in glitter and pieces of paper and our group which had expanded to include a cute couple: a girl with blue eyebrows and a guy who was wearing a blazer and a full size turntable round hisĀ neck andĀ proceeded to the next stop on our gravy train, Robot vs Dinosaur.

I was a bit shocked to find that the night was based in a small room upstairs and it was fairly dead, but the music delivered a plasmid full of electroshock and I started to get my sweat on.

Drinks were cheap and aplenty, but you had to wait 20mins after you ordered so that the barman with a black eye could attempt to woo you with his spinning bottle routines.

The night ended, with us departing to the bottom floor of the bar, where they played ODB, Baby I like it raw and I ushered my friends into a taxi and spent the best part of the journey ignoring two weird dutch girls and trying to stop my boozed out sis from banging her head continuously on the taxi door.

Anyway, fairly groggy and only 2 day’s till wheels up, Venezuela bitches!
